The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances (Treaty) was adopted by the Diplomatic Conference on the Protection of Audiovisual Performances held in Beijing from 20 to 26 June 2012. The Treaty must enter into force three months after its ratification or accession by 30 eligible parties, and since it has been ratified by Indonesia as the 30th party on 28 January 2020, it will enter into force on 28 April 2020. Hungary and the EU had already signed the Treaty, however, it has not been ratified by the EU until now.
When the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) registered the trademark in 2014, in its application form Adidas described the trademark as “three parallel equidistant stripes of equal width applied to the product in whichever direction”.
On 13 February 2019 the European Parliament and Council agreed on how the EU’s copyright rules should be updated aiming to strengthen the position of the journalists and artists vis-á-vis the large online platforms.
An amendment to the act on industrial properties enters into force on 1 January 2019. Such amendment not only modifies the existing trademark procedures, but also creates a more efficient, fast and customer-friendly system.
