Founding partner

Blaise G.A. Pasztory has been practicing in corporate, securities and international law for more than 50 years. He devotes a substantial portion of his time to securities laws matters, as well as to pooled vehicles including investment companies and partnerships. He has worked on the formation of various mutual funds groups and assisted in the establishment of hedge funds, money market funds, index funds, offshore funds, and venture capital funds.

In 2004, Mr. Pasztory was awarded the Order of Merit (middle cross) of the Hungarian Republic for his contributions to the improvement of commercial and economic ties between Hungary and the United States.


Professional Experience

Mr. Pasztory is admitted to practice in New York and the United Stated District Court, Southern District of New York, and registered as a foreign legal adviser with the Budapest Bar Association.

He was affiliated with Seward & Kissel, LL.P. for 36 years, as associate (1962-69), partner (1969-1998), and was a member of the firm’s Management Committee from 1985 to 1990. He opened and headed the Budapest office of the firm from 1992 to 1998.

In 1998, he became the partner in charge of the Budapest office of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LL.P., and remained a partner of that firm until 2005. From 2005 to 2014, he was counsel and foreign legal adviser to the Hungarian firm of Sándor Szegedi Szent-Ivány Komáromi Eversheds Law Office in Budapest.

Recent Professional Publications/Teaching/Associations

Mr. Pasztory has served on many panels and written a number of articles related to corporate and securities matters. He co-authored a folio on the “Federal Securities Laws Aspects of Pension and Profit Sharing Plans.” and is currently working on a textbook, “Introduction to the International Capital Markets”.

Since 2007, he has taught seminars at Eötvös Loránd University Faculty of Law (Budapest) on the subject of Corporate Markets Law, and has spoken on investment companies and securities laws at programs sponsored by the Practicing Law Institute, the Investment Company Institute and the ICI/IBA Annual Seminar on Offshore Funds.

Affiliated with several professional legal associations including the American and New York State Bar Associations, he is a former chair of the Committee on Central and Eastern European Law New York City Bar Association; a former chairman, vice chair and treasurer of the International Bar Association’s (IBA) Section on Business Law; the founder and Past Chairman of the IBA’s Eastern European Forum; and an honorary life member of the Council of the IBA.
